Nomura has achieved the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the “Largest online video chain passing and using a piggy bank / money box.” Employees worldwide took part in the relay, filming themselves receiving the company’s One Million Ryo Savings Box, placing money inside, and passing it on to the next person. In total, 765 clips were stitched together into one video running 1 hour, 56 minutes and 25 seconds. The record was certified on February 6, 2026, and the official certificate presentation ceremony was held on March 4, 2026.

Attempting to set a record

Employees around the world participated in the record attempt by filming themselves receiving the savings box, placing money inside, and passing it on to the next person. The clips were then linked together and released as an online video chain. All videos followed the same format.

4,000 participants, 1:56:25 run time

More than 4,000 people participated in the initiative, and over 1,000 video clips were submitted. Of these, 765 clips met the certification requirements, and the resulting video chain was recognized by GUSINNESS WORLD RECORDS™. The final video runs 1 hour, 56 minutes and 25 seconds.

A meaningful and memorable initiative

We took on this challenge to bring together Nomura employees across the globe in a meaningful and memorable way to mark our 100th Anniversary.

We also wanted to demonstrate Nomura’s commitment to taking on new challenges and inspire people around the world to try something new themselves.

One Million Ryo Savings Box: Carrying hope forward

Using a savings box distributed in the 1950s as a relay baton

For this GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ attempt, we used the One Million Ryo Savings Box. Nomura Securities distributed more than one million of these boxes in the 1950s to help make investing and asset building accessible to more people in postwar Japan.

In the video relay, our colleagues around the world received and passed along the savings box, carrying forward our hope for a better world and a brighter future and serving as a meaningful symbol of our 100th Anniversary initiatives.

A “baton” conveying gratitude and determination

The One Million Ryo Savings Box embodies our gratitude to all our stakeholders who have supported Nomura over the years, as well as our determination to take on new challenges for the next 100 years. The simple act of passing the box became a symbolic baton, carrying these sentiments across borders and languages.

Internal countdown video relay

The videos were also shared internally as part of a 100-day countdown to Nomura’s 100th Anniversary, along with department introductions and messages from colleagues.

The initiative helped build a sense of unity ahead of the milestone, deepened understanding and collaboration across teams, and contributed to stronger employee engagement.
