Nomura Group has published the Nomura Report 2026, an integrated version of the company’s Annual Report and Citizenship Report. The report looks back on our 100-year history and introduces our management strategy, business activities, and sustainability initiatives.

In this article, we highlight three initiatives featured in the report: a dialogue between the leaders of Nomura Asset Management and Nomura Asset Management International; Orion Breweries’ “Second Founding” project in Okinawa; and the establishment of the Nomura Well-Growing Institute (WGI).

1. Nomura’s global asset management business

The Investment Management Division’s mission: Establish a global asset management platform

In December 2025, Nomura completed the acquisition of Macquarie Group’s U.S. and European public asset management business. Building on our strong business franchise in Japan, we aim to further expand our global investment capabilities, distribution networks, and client base. Our goal is to become a truly global asset management platform with a strong presence worldwide.

Shoichi Ohkoshi, CEO of Nomura Asset Management, and Shawn Lytle, CEO of Nomura Asset Management International, have a conversation on the initiative in this year’s report.

After gaining experience in both sell-side and buy-side businesses at J.P. Morgan Securities, Ohkoshi became president of J.P. Morgan Asset Management Japan in 2015. As Vice Chairman of the Japan Investment Advisers Association, he also contributed to the development of Japan’s asset management industry. In April 2026, he was appointed CEO of Nomura Asset Management, becoming the first person outside Nomura Group to lead the company.

Shawn Lytle has more than 30 years of experience at global asset management firms based in the United States, Europe, and Australia, including broad expertise in product development and investment management. At Macquarie, he served as President of Macquarie Funds and Head of Macquarie Group Americas. He was appointed CEO of Nomura Asset Management International in December 2025.

During their dialogue, the two executives discuss changes in the asset management industry, growth strategies for their respective companies, and Nomura’s vision of becoming a global asset management platform.

The two leaders, whose careers span different regions, share their perspectives on how Nomura will deliver value to clients worldwide as it evolves from “a Japanese asset manager on the global stage” into “a global asset management company with roots in Japan.”

In Nomura Report 2026, we highlight Nomura’s efforts to support corporate growth amid Japan’s ongoing corporate governance reforms. One notable example is the “second founding” project by Okinawa-based Orion Breweries.

In 2019, Nomura Capital Partners invested in Orion Breweries in Okinawa. Since then, Nomura has worked with Orion Breweries’ management team to develop a growth strategy and pursue initiatives including new product development, expansion beyond Okinawa and into overseas markets, online sales, and enhancement of the company’s brand value. In September 2025, Orion Breweries became the first manufacturing company in Okinawa to list on Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Prime Market.

In addition to Nomura Capital Partners, multiple divisions across Nomura Group—including Investment Banking, Global Markets, and Wealth Management—have worked with Orion Breweries to enhance its corporate value. These efforts ultimately helped connect the company with investors and the local community through its stock market listing.
