Pride Month 2024 Report

INDEX

Nomura is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment where all our employees feel supported. We believe the diversity of our people is key to our competitive strengths and our success as a firm.

Throughout the month of June, our voluntary employee networks held various events and activities at our offices globally to celebrate Pride Month and foster greater understanding of the LGBTQ+ community.

Global

Global Roundtable

Nomura’s Global Pride and ALLIES Networks commemorated Pride Month by holding a global roundtable event titled "United in Pride: Voices from Nomura's Global LGBTQ+ and Ally Community". It was hosted by our Japan DEI Network and was our first global Pride event since 2022. Over 300 employees from around the world joined in real time, and a separate viewing session of the event was held in New York.

Japan

Film Screening and Talk Session

We hosted a screening of the documentary film "Okinawa Coming Out Story." During the post-screening talk session, film director Hiroaki Matsuoka shared the inspiration behind making the film and the thoughts and emotions put into the work, and discussed the importance of having LGBTQ+ allies.

Americas

Panel Event with Guests from American LGBTQ+ Museum

The Americas Pride Network hosted a panel event with Ben Garcia, Suhaly Bautista-Carolina, and Katherine Grainger from the new to discuss plans, programming and the future goals for the museum. The American LGBTQ+ Museum is dedicated to preserving, researching, and sharing the dynamic histories and cultures of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people, as well as emergent and adjacent identities. The museum's traveling exhibit and local programs enrich communities across the United States, and will open in New York City in 2026. The panel was followed by a celebratory reception and a lively performance by a queer jazz band.

EMEA

Conversations on LGBTQIA+ with Diversity Role Models

Our EMEA Pride and LIFE Networks partnered with Diversity Role Models to discuss how to have conversations about LGBTQIA+ topics with young people. The session covered terminology, being a positive role model, and using tools for natural conversation.

Nomura attended the 2024 British LGBT Awards, which was held to celebrate the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. Our very own Ryan Bleach from our London office was a nominee and was recognized during the event.

Pride BBQ

Our Pride Network proudly hosted our 10th Annual Pride BBQ with guest speaker Bisi Alimi, a British-Nigerian gay rights activist and HIV/LGBT advocate.

Mr. Shahani shared his personal experiences as an LGBTQ+ individual, discussed the evolving models of diversity and inclusion in India, emphasized the importance of structural changes to promote inclusive workplaces, and highlighted the significance of inclusion in educational institutions. Close to 700 people attended the session, including local university students and employees.
