Summary
- Pro golfer Hideki Matsuyama triumphs in the first tournament of the 2025 PGA Tour, The Sentry
- New Tour record set for a 72-hole tournament at 35 under par
- Matsuyama’s 11th PGA Tour career title

Hideki Matsuyama, sponsored by Nomura, emerged victorious at the first tournament of the 2025 PGA Tour season, The Sentry (The Plantation Course, Maui, Hawaii). He carded 35-under, setting a new record. The victory marks his 11th PGA Tour title.
Matsuyama is now in the eleventh year of his golf career in the United States. In a remarkable early show of force at this year’s The Sentry, by the close of Round 1 he was tied for second place and only a stroke behind the leader. He soon took the lead with another 8-under 65 in Round 2. Then, in Round 3, he retained the lead shooting a 62 to bring his total to 27-under. The final day saw an early shot-for-shot battle against the US’s Collin Morikawa, but with an amazing 107-yard hole out eagle, seven birdies, and only a single bogey, he emerged victorious with a tournament total 35-under: a new record. The previous 72-hole under-par record was set by Australia’s Cameron Smith during the 2022 PGA Tour.
Matsuyama’s previous PGA Tour win was at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, in August last year. With this eleventh win, he has renewed his own record for the most wins of any Asian player on the PGA Tour.
We look forward to cheering on Matsuyama together for the rest of the 2025 PGA Tour! Congratulations Hideki Matsuyama!
