The Japanese financial markets have recently been attracting attention from both inside and outside the country.
In this installment, we talk to the Investor Relations Department (IR) of Nomura Holdings, which is tasked with communicating Nomura’s corporate strategy and financial results to our stakeholders, including our shareholders and investors.

Two-way communication with investors

We communicate Nomura Group's strategies and financial results to shareholders, investors, and other stakeholders. This includes preparing presentation materials of quarterly financial results, and producing the pages covering financial and non-financial data and strategies in the Nomura Report. We also prepare materials on Nomura's strategy and financial performance for our strategy presentations held twice a year. Our most important mission is to use these materials to engage in two-way communication with investors. We also hold information sessions for individual investors. We aim to increase Nomura's corporate value by helping stakeholders deepen their understanding of Nomura's financial results, future vision, and capital policy.

New initiatives from 2024

In April 2024 we expanded our team. We have members with experience in various departments across Nomura as well as at other companies, so we are quite a diverse team. With the heightened focus on the Japanese financial markets globally, Nomura is also attracting increasing attention. We are strategically increasing meetings with domestic and overseas institutional investors this fiscal year.

We launched a Speaker Series, which features online small meetings where business leaders from each division introduce Nomura's business strategies and initiatives to investors and sell-side analysts to deepen their understanding of Nomura's business. We also actively participate in conferences organized by other financial institutions.

In addition, we share the constructive feedback we receive from investors not only with top management but also with the planning teams in each division. By ensuring that we understand what investors are saying at the divisional level, we hope to reflect that perspective into our disclosures and contribute to divisional strategies.

We also participate in investment seminars and events for individual investors, and we plan to increase opportunities to communicate directly with investors.

Can you tell us more about what the IR Department does?

We are not a large team, so each of us works on a wide variety of things. We handle Q&A sessions at analyst and institutional investor meetings after financial results are announced, and we work with the Wealth Management Division to prepare presentation materials. We also work with the division to produce effective explanations and graphs based on the financial results data we receive from the Controller's Department. In addition, we work with Nomura Investor Relations to plan information sessions for individual investors, where our Group CEO Kentaro Okuda talks with prominent people about Nomura’s strengths and strategies.

What are you conscious of in performing your work?

How we communicate information can have a significant impact on the stock price and investor evaluations. We strive to explain Nomura's strategies and performance to investors in an easy-to-understand manner. For example, rather than merely presenting numbers, we also share the medium to long-term strategy behind those numbers and challenges, paying close attention to our choice of words and the nuances we use. In addition, when it comes to briefings for individual investors, we focus on the information they are most interested in, such as shareholder returns and dividends. We also try to create presentation materials and external communications based on investors' interests.

What are your future goals as a team?

As a team, we want to continue to implement new initiatives. To ensure that we can confidently explain about Nomura to institutional investors, we are also committed to deepening our understanding of each division and the Group as a whole. Given the attention being paid to the Japanese financial markets, we will strive to carry out activities more proactively to enhance Nomura's corporate value.
